"Assassination Classroom" portrays a group of middle school outcasts on a mission to save the world from a peculiar, yellow, tentacled alien. This creature destroys most of the moon, and then arrives on Earth, announcing himself as the teacher of Class 3-E. He transforms the underachieving students into skilled assassins and challenges them to kill him by the end of the school year, warning that Earth will face the same fate as the moon if they fail. Although he's super-fast and almost impossible to kill, he's also the best teacher the students have ever had. He remarkably improves their grades and boosts their self-confidence, winning their trust and admiration.
Despite its bizarre premise, "Assassination Classroom" is a heartwarming and comedic story that celebrates the potential of children. The motives of the enigmatic alien, originally known as "The Reaper" but later dubbed Koro-sensei (meaning "unkillable teacher"), are not immediately clear, but it soon becomes evident that he's more than a mindless destroyer. Yusei Matsui, the creator of the original manga, explains that the story highlights how one's self-doubts can be harnessed to achieve great things. Koro-sensei offers the students a fresh perspective and a unique opportunity to improve their lives.
